Car owners know and understand that routine maintenance is important to keep their car running at its best. With so many parts and systems it can get confusing as to what needs to be service when. One area that needs to be serviced is the belts and hoses, below are some tips on what belts and hoses do and when they should be serviced:

  • Hoses- Hoses are responsible for carrying liquids like oil, transmission fluid, and coolant to various parts of the car engine. Over time hoses can deteriorate and either leak or break completely causing damage to the car engine. It is important to check your hoses regularly and unless otherwise stated in your owner’s manual you will usually need to replace your hoses every four years.
  • Belts- Belts are responsible for driving parts of your engine like the alternator, water pump, and air-conditioning compressor. It is important to routinely check your belts for signs of wear like cracks or fraying and usually need to be replaced every four years or 36,000 miles unless otherwise stated in your owner’s manual.
